    Hi, I’m Matt!
    Your First-Birthday Photographer

    I’m Matt, a photographer and videographer serving Edmonton and surrounding communities. I have more than 20 years of photography experience and experience working with babies and young children.

    Over the years, I’ve developed ways of working with babies and toddlers that clients have appreciated. For a first-birthday session, that means staying calm, providing guidance and responding patiently when a child needs time to settle, move around or take a pause.

    A cake smash can bring curiosity, hesitation or an unexpected reaction. I work flexibly with what happens, looking for your child’s personality and family connections without expecting a particular smile or response.

    Planning Your First-Birthday Session

    From your first ideas to the finished photographs, I guide the photography while keeping your child’s comfort and your family’s priorities in mind. Here’s how we plan a cake smash or first-birthday session:

    Your Birthday Photo Plans

    We’ll discuss portraits, a cake smash or both, who will participate and any meaningful details. Tell me your preferences for solo baby, sibling and family photographs, along with scheduling and the look you have in mind.

    Location and Preparation

    We’ll discuss a suitable location and what you plan to bring for the cake smash. Home or indoor settings, studio-style options where available and outdoor locations around Edmonton may be appropriate, depending on the session and conditions.

    Calm, Guided Photography

    I handle direction, lighting, composition and camera settings. Your baby may need time to settle or pause, or may react to the cake differently than expected. I work patiently and flexibly with their responses.

    Selecting the Strongest Images

    After the session, I carefully review the photographs and select the strongest images. I look for expressions, personality and connections, whether they happen during birthday portraits, family photographs or the cake smash.

    Individual Hand Editing

    I hand edit the selected photographs, paying attention to each image. Quality control continues through editing, carrying the same care from the session into the finished selection.

    Your Finished Photographs

    Digital files are included. Most galleries are delivered within 2–3 weeks depending on project size, as a general timeframe rather than a guaranteed deadline. Archival-quality prints and custom albums are available on request.
